DePauw Baseball Team Opens with Split

February 19, 2011, Maryville, Tenn. — DePauw's Elliott Ross and Andy Manson combined for a four-hit shutout in a 6-0 win at Maryville (Tenn.) in game one of the twinbill, but the Scots tossed a two-hit shutout at the Tigers in the nightcap for a 3-0 win.
Ben Gardner led off the DePauw season with a triple and scored on Zach Galyean's sacrifice fly. Rob McPike's two-run homer in the third made it 3-0 before Aaron Henry scored in the fourth on Gardner's double.
The Tigers' final runs came in the seventh when Alex Berlyn drove in McPike with a bases loaded fielder's choice and Sam Swafford plated Jason Cohen with a sacrifice fly.
DePauw totaled eight hits as Gardner and Cohen had two each. Ross allowed just two hits and a walk, while striking out six in six innings and Manson pitched a scoreless seventh. Robert Brown dropped to 0-2 for the Scots.
In the nightcap, the Tigers left five runners stranded over the first three innings and three over the final two in suffering the loss. Maryville scored single runs in the first, fourth and eighth innings.
Cohen and Alex Wright had DePauw's only two hits, while seven different Scots collected one apiece. Scott Rosselli improved to 1-0 ad Mark Morales picked up the save after striking out two in the ninth. Hobs Donovan suffered the loss despite striking out eight in 6 1/3 innings.
DePauw is 1-1 on the season, while Maryville is 2-3. The teams meet at Noon on Sunday in a single game,Back
