DePauw Rallies in Second Half for Win at Rhodes

February 20, 2011, Memphis, Tenn. — DePauw scored 15 straight points in a six-minute stretch of the second half to erase a seven-point deficit on the way to a 47-43 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory at Rhodes. The Tigers improved to 17-8 overall and finished SCAC play at 12-4, while Rhodes dropped to 8-16 overall and 3-13 in the conference.
The Tigers scored five points in the game's first two minutes, but wouldn't score again for over eight minutes and added just seven more in the half as Rhodes held a 17-12 halftime lead.
Rhodes maintained that lead in the second half and was up 34-27 with 10 minutes left before the Tigers hit five three-pointers over a six-minute stretch to take a 42-34 lead. During the run, Ian Rumpp and Steve Lemasters each made two treys and Sean Haseley knocked in the other.
The Lynx closed the gap to 42-41 with just over two minutes remaining, but the Tigers scored four straight and held on for the win.
Ryan Sever led the Tigers with 19 points, while Haseley added 11 and Michael Wilkison grabbed a career-best seven rebounds. Ross Simpson led the way with five assists.
Kory Kilpatrick led Rhodes with 17 points and eight rebounds.
The Tigers shot 41 percent from the floor including 57.9 percent in the second half. DePauw hit 7-of-11 three-pointers in the second half and 9-of-20 for the game.
DePauw opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday, February 25, when it faces Austin in the quarterfinals at 3 p.m. CST at Belhaven College in Jackson, Miss.
