DePauw Extends Baseball Win Streak to Four

March 12, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw banged out 13 hits on the way to a 9-1 win over visiting Alma for its fourth straight victory. The Tigers improved to 7-5, while the Scots dropped to 2-4.
Alma took a 1-0 lead in the second as Nate Smith and Adam Rezmer led off the inning with back-to-back doubles.
The Tigers struck first in the fifth as Robbie Stein led off with a double, Chris Forbringer walked and Ben Gardner reached on a bunt single. Sam Swafford's single to center scored Stein before Rob McPike's fly ball to center was dropped allowing Forbringer to come home.
Alex Wright later walked with the bases loaded and Zach Galyean drove in the inning's fourth run with a ground out.
Swafford doubled home Forbringer in the sixth and Alex Berlyn's seventh-inning single plated Wright who had earlier doubled to extend his hit streak to 11 games.
DePauw rounded out the scoring in the eighth as Swafford singled in Forbringer before Wright and Galyean each added RBI singles.
Gardner and Swafford each had three of DePauw's 13 hits, while Wright and Galyean followed with two each. Swafford also drove in three. Donny Lee and Rezmer had two each of the Scots' six hits.
Elliott Ross improved to 2-1 with the complete game win and added eight strikeouts without allowing a walk. Sam Shipman dropped to 0-1 with the loss.
DePauw hosts Manchester at 10 a.m. tomorrow and Marian (Ind.) at approximately 4 p.m. or 25 minutes following the conclusion of the Manchester-Marian game.Back
