DePauw's 11-run Ninth not Enough in Loss at Emory

March 22, 2011, Atlanta, Ga. — DePauw scored 11 runs in the top of the ninth, but dropped a 14-13 decision at Emory as the game ended with the potential tying run called out at the plate. DePauw dropped to 7-13, while Emory improved to 15-8.
Emory took a 1-0 lead in the first on Kevin O'Connor's RBI single before DePauw gained a 2-1 advantage in the fifth. Zach Galyean scored from third on a passed ball and Zach Starr came home when Rob McPike was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The Eagles extended their lead to 14-2 with four in the fifth, five in the seventh and four more in the eighth.
DePauw pinch-hitter Robbie Stein drove in the first three runs in the ninth with a bases loaded triple. Stein then scored on Sam Yeary's single and Alex Wright came home on Pat Lyons' base hit. Yeary scored when Aaron Henry singled to center to close the Emory lead to 14-8.
JB McCallum's single scored Lyons before Stein drove in Brendon Pashia with a base hit. Jason Cohen then delivered a bases loaded double. Brett Linn entered as a pinch-runner before Wright followed with a single to right. Linn was thrown out at the plate on a throw from the right fielder.
DePauw totaled 13 hits led by Stein and Lyons with two each. Stein drove in four. Emory finished with 17 hits as Ryan Jones totaled four and Brandon Hannon added three. O'Connor and Patrick Riebsame each had two.
Starter Sean Brennan dropped to 0-1 with the loss, while Caleb Long improved to 3-0 for Emory.
The Tigers travel to Piedmont on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest.Back
