DePauw Tops Engineers, 13-1

April 6, 2011, Terre Haute, Ind. — A seven-run third inning propelled DePauw to a 13-1 win at Rose-Hulman. The Tigers improved to 11-15 with the win, while the Engineers dropped to 14-8.
The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the first as Zach Galyean drove in a pair with a single before Rose-Hulman cut the margin in half in the bottom of the frame with Michael Kovacs scoring Chris Stemple with a single.
Rob McPike led off the DePauw third by being hit by a pitch before Jason Cohen singled him to second. Each advanced a base on a balk before Alex Wright reached on an error allowing McPike and Cohen to score. Robbie Stein followed with a double before Alex Berlyn drove in a pair with a double. Ben Gardner walked and Sam Swafford doubled home a pair. Swafford then scored when McPike singled giving the Tigers a 9-1 lead.
Swafford's sacrifice fly plated Aaron Henry in the sixth. Gardner's two-run double in the eighth was followed by McPike's run-scoring base hit.
DePauw totaled 13 hits paced by Cohen's three and two each from Gardner, McPike and Berlyn. The Engineers finished with six hits as Stemple led the way with two.
Mike Peterson improved to 2-3 after allowing just five hits and one unearned run in seven innings. Nick Rumpke dropped to 1-3 with the loss.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, April 9, when it hosts Birmingham-Southern in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
