Soccer Club Formed at DePauw

September 12, 1965

100361September 12, 1965, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw University's intercollegiate athletic program is ramping up this fall to deliver a new offering: soccer.  A student soccer club has been formed, led and coached by Charlie Erdmann.  Competition will be on a limited basis this year with an eye on a varsity schedule next season.

The first DePauw soccer squad has players from five nations, including German exchange student Reinhart Schneider.  About half of the members of the club have had previous experience in the sport, which is rapildy gaining enthusiastic support in this country.

The scrimmages are taking place on a 400 by 225-foot field just northwest of Blackstock Stadium.  The field was made possible largely through the efforts of Edwin C. Boswell '31, a member of DePauw's Board of Trustees, who donated the services and equipment of his Rochester, Indiana construction company to grade the area.
