2011 Grads Christine DiGangi & Matt Welch Join New York Times Staff

101174August 25, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — Christine DiGangi and Matt Welch, who both graduated from DePauw University in May 2011, have both accepted full-time positions within the New York Times organization. The pair, who each served as editor-in-chief of The DePauw during their undergraduate careers, spent the summer interning for the Times.

DiGangi is serving as a copy editor the Times' news service, while Welch is a designer and copy editor for the Times' International Weekly, a weekly section for international audiences which  is distributed in 35 papers across the U.S., Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa, reaching more than 6 million readers each week.  Both are based in Gainesville, Florida, at the Gainesville Sun, which is owned by the Times.

The couple also became engaged last weekend.864

DiGangi earned third place in the 24th annual Thomas R. Keating Feature Writing Contest, while Welch spent the summer of 2010 as a copy editing intern at the Wall Street Journal through the Dow Jones News Fund's summer internship program. Welch was the editor of The DePauw in the fall of 2009, while DiGangi led the paper in the fall of 2010.
