Ellis Delivers Overtime Goal Which Keeps Tigers Perfect in NCAC

October 1, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — Margaret Ellis scored just 2:10 into the first overtime and gave DePauw a 3-2 field hockey win over Denison in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest.
DePauw improved to 8-1 overall and 7-0 in the NCAC with its eighth straight win. The Big Red, off to the best start in school history, dropped to 9-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
The host Tigers took a 2-0 lead as Bridgette Shamleffer scored twice with the first coming on Ellis' assist at 6:45 and again at 32:17 on Paige Henry's assist.
Denison responded in the second half as Hilary Zdanowski scored on Molly Chapman's assist just 3:40 into the half and Katie McMahon forced the overtime with a goal with just 58 seconds left.
Ellis, who has now scored in all nine games this season, delivered the game winner which left the Tigers as the lone unbeaten team in NCAC play.
DePauw held a 21-4 advantage in shots and a 13-4 edge in penalty corners. Maggie Steele totaled two saves for the Tigers, while Denison's Brittany Benson had nine.
DePauw returns to action tomorrow at Ohio Wesleyan in a 2 p.m. contest.
