#9 DePauw Advances to Washington Classic Title Game with Win over #13 Illinois Wesleyan

November 26, 2011, St. Louis, Mo. — DePauw, ranked ninth in the Division III Coaches' preseason poll and 10th by D3hoops.com, scored 11 straight points in the second half to erase a two-point deficit on the way to a 67-54 win over Illinois Wesleyan (13th coaches/17th D3hoops.com) in the first game of the Washington-St. Louis Thanksgiving Classic. The Tigers will face the host Bears (6th coaches/7th D3hoops.com) in Sunday's 3 p.m. CST title game after Washington defeated Hendrix, 62-52.
Illinois Wesleyan scored the game's first eight points and held an 11-2 lead before DePauw knotted the score at 14-14 with a 12-3 run. The Titans held a 34-32 advantage at the break after the Tigers scored the final four points of the half.
Trailing 38-36, DePauw tied the game on Katie Aldrich's bucket and took the lead on a three-pointer from Savannah Trees. Aldrich added another jumper and Trees knocked down another three before Ellie Pearson hit a free throw to cap an 11-0 run which gave DePauw a 47-38 lead with 11:30 remaining.
The Titans were within eight at 56-48 with just over six minutes left before DePauw scored eight straight to expand the lead to 16 with 3:20 left.
Aldrich led all scorers with 22 points, while Trees followed with 13 and hit all three three-pointers she attempted. Pearson grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds as DePauw held a 47-33 advantage on the boards. Pearson and Trees each dished out four assists.
Olivia Lett paced Illinois Wesleyan with 18 with Melissa Gardner adding 15. Britt Hasselbring grabbed seven rebounds and Lett dished out six assists.
DePauw improved to 2-1 with the win, while Illinois Wesleyan slipped to 2-2.
