Ohio Northern Wins Back-and-Forth Series Finale

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw took a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning, but Ohio Northern outscored the Tigers 12-9 over the final four frames and took a 14-12 win in a wild game at Walker Field. The Tigers dropped to 12-3 on the season, while the Polar Bears improved to 4-8.
Ohio Northern jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first as Dan Belliveau reached on an error and Matt Hampshire singled before Cory Martin delivered a two-run, two-out double to left center giving the Polar Bears a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers countered in the third as J.B. McCallum was hit by a pitch and moved to second on Pat Lyons' single. Brendon Pashia loaded the bases with a bunt single before Rob McPike reached on a fielder's choice which allowed McCallum to score. Jason Cohen followed with a two-run double to right center which gave the Tigers a 3-2 advantage.
Ohio Northern regained the lead in the top of the sixth as Hampshire led off with a homer to right center and the next batter, Cory Matin, homered to left.
Alex Berlyn led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and advanced to second on Ryan Allee's sacrifice bunt. McCallum walked and Lyons followed with a single which plated Berlyn. Pashia then delivered a double off the fence in left which brought home McCallum and gave DePauw a 5-4 lead.
The Polar Bears took the lead again with five in the top of the seventh as Belliveau and Eric Yunker each reached on two-out errors and Hampshire walked to load the bases. Martin's infield single scored Belliveau and Kevin Obarski followed with his second grand slam of the series to give Ohio Northern a 9-5 advantage.
DePauw battled back with four in the bottom of the seventh as Allee drove in Alex Wright with a bases loaded single. McCallum singled home a pair before Lyons knotted the score with a run-scoring base hit.
Ohio Northern regained the lead in the eighth on Yunker's two-run single, but DePauw countered with three in the bottom of the inning. Wright doubled and scored on Robbie Stein's triple. Zach Galyean followed with a double which plated Stein. Allee's single to left advanced Galyean to third and McCallum drove in the go-ahead run with a bunt single.
Obarski was hit by a pitch to lead off the ninth and advanced to third on pinch-hitter Josh Murphy's double. Chad Coward drew a two-out walk and Belliveau followed with a bases-clearing double down the left field line.
DePauw totaled 19 hits led by three each from Lyons, Pashia and Wright. Galyean, Allee and McCallum each added two in the loss.
Ohio Northern totaled 13 hits in the win with Martin leading the way with four. Belliveau and Hampshire each had two with Martin and Obarski driving in four apiece.
Shane Parks collected the win and improved to 1-1, while Joe Wojda dropped to 1-1 with the loss. Ohio Northern's Chris Leiby picked up his first save.
DePauw opens North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday, March 24, when it hosts Wittenberg in a Noon doubleheader.
