Pair of Eighth-Inning Homers Send DePauw to NCAC Tourney Defeat

Chillicothe, Ohio - DePauw and Wooster battled through seven innings to a 1-1 tie, but the Fighting Scots hit a solo homer with two outs in the eighth and then a two-run shot to take a 4-1 victory over the Tigers in the opening game of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.
DePauw, ranked 23rd in both national polls, dropped to 30-11 on the season and into the loser's bracket where it will face Kenyon in Friday's 4 p.m. elimination game. Kenyon dropped a 9-4 decision in today's second game. Wooster improved to 24-15 and will face Ohio Wesleyan in tomorrow's Noon winner's bracket contest.
The Tigers struck first when Pat Lyons led off the third with a double, moved to third on Zach Starr's grounder and scored on Zach Galyean's sacrifice fly.
Wooster's first run came in the fifth when Jake Zeek and John McLain each singled with two outs and Michael BeBord plated Zeek with a single.
The game-winning runs in the eighth also came with two outs as Eddie Reese homered to left. After Johnathan Ray walked, Billy Farrow followed with a homer to left center.
The Tigers totaled nine hits led by two each from Rob McPike, Alex Wright and Lyons. DePauw placed at least one runner on base in every inning, but stranded nine in the loss. Zeek had two of Wooster's eight hits.
Hobs Donovan dropped to 3-1 with the loss, while Steve Hagen improved to 7-3 with the victory.
