Tigers Drop 4-2 NCAC Winner's Bracket Game to Denison; Kosinski Breaks DePauw Career Hits Record

Jen KosinskiMeadville, Pa. - In a game that started over an hour late due to rain and was delayed for over an hour in the sixth inning, #3 seed DePauw dropped a 4-2 decision to #4 seed Denison in the winner's bracket of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.

DePauw (27-11) will play an elimination game at 2 p.m. on Saturday against the winner of the Allegheny/Wooster contest which is now scheduled for Noon after it was postponed today. Denison (26-16) advanced to Sunday's Noon Championship game.

Denison took a 1-0 lead in the first as Hannah Price led off with a single, moved to second on Julie Rooney's sacrifice bunt and scored on Rachel Laughlin's double.

The Big Red expanded the lead to 3-0 in the third after Laughlin reached on an error and Meghan Edwards followed with a two-run homer.

DePauw countered in the bottom of the third as Rachel MacBeth led off with a single and moved to second on Cymond Allen's sacrifice bunt. Jen Kosinski's (pictured) single advanced MacBeth to third and a wild pitch scored her.

The Tigers trimmed the lead to 3-2 in the fifth when Holly Paris reached on a fielder's choice and Haley Buchanan singled. Emily Dieckmann's single scored Paris. Kate Hendrickson walked to load the bases, but the Tigers couldn't bring home the tying run.

Before play was stopped in the sixth, Price doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Rooney's ground out.

DePauw totaled eight hits paced by MacBeth's three. Kosinski's single in the third was the 212th hit of her career and broke the DePauw record of 211 held by Rachel Gill (2006-09). Heather Larsen had three of Denison's eight hits and Price added a pair.

Kelsey Hager improved to 11-9 with the win, while Dieckman dropped to 11-6. Becca Dyer recorded her first save.
