DePauw Softball Eliminates Top-Seed Allegheny to Advance to Championship Sunday

Meadville, Pa. - Third-seed DePauw fell behind in the first inning, but rallied with two runs each in the fourth and sixth innings and took a 4-1 win over top-seed Allegheny in an elimination game in the North Coast Athletic Conference Softball Tournament.
DePauw improved to 28-11 with the win and advanced to a 10 a.m. Sunday meeting with Denison. The Tigers will need to beat the Big Red twice to win the tournament, while Denison can eliminate the Tigers and claim the title with just one win. Allegheny dropped to 27-11-1 with the loss.
The Gators scored their only run in the first inning as Nicole Rodi reached on an error, but was forced at second on Stephanie Fort's grounder. Fort stole second and scored on Halea Hayden's double down the left field line. Allegheny has another scoring chance in the second as Caitlin Nealer doubled, but was thrown out at the plate by center fielder Cymone Allen after trying to score on Leah Herlocker's single.
DePauw's Jen Kosinski singled with one out in the fourth, but was forced at second on Amy Hallett's grounder. Holly Paris then singled home Hallett and scored on Haley Buchanan's double.
Allen led off the sixth with a walk and scored on an outfield error after Kosinski singled. After Kosinski stole third, Buchanan delivered a two-out run-scoring single.
The Tigers totaled seven hits paced by three from Kosinski and two from Buchanan. Hayden and Nealer each had two of Allegheny's six hits.
Emily Bichler improved to 8-4 with the win after allowing just one unearned run, while Nealer dropped to 23-6.
