Saxophonist & Peace Activist George Wolfe Visits Campus This Week

Saxophonist George Wolfe, "performs with beautiful tone, impeccable intonation, and assured technique in a wide range of stylistic contexts," opined Thomas Liley in the Saxophone Symposium. Wolfe, who is both a professor of saxophone and the Coordinator of Outreach for the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at Ball State University, will be at DePauw University for a three-day residency this week.

On Tuesday, October 2, Wolfe will present a masterclass at 11:30 a.m. in Thompson Recital Hall, located within the Green Center for the Performing Arts. At 4 p.m., the professor will present a talk in conjunction with DePauw's Peace Camp, "Building a Positive Proactive Peace." It will take place in room 121 of Asbury Hall.

Wednesday, Wolfe will present at 10:30 a.m. recital/discussion in ThompsonSaxophone a Recital Hall, with an 11:30 a.m. improvisational workshop with a chamber music ensemble in the same venue.

Thursday, the saxophonist will speak at 11:30 in room 111 of Asbury Hall on "Peace-building in a Pluralistic Interfaith World." His visit will conclude with a 6:30 p.m. recital in Thompson Hall, "Music, Metaphor, and Protest."

All of the events are free and open to all, except for the Thursday evening recital, which requires tickets (available here).

Wolfe's recently published book, The Spiritual Power of Non-Violence, will be available at his Thursday evening concert, as well as at Eli's Books during the week.

Wolfe has performed extensively throughout the United States and has also concertized in Europe, Cyprus, Costa Rica, Canada, India, Korea and Japan. He has appeared as a soloist with such ensembles as the United States Navy Band, the Saskatoon Symphony, the World Band at Musical notesDisney World, the Chautauqua Motet Choir, the Indianapolis Children’s Choir, and was recently featured on a compact disc as a soloist with the Royale Band of the Belgian Air force.
