DePauw's Streak Snapped at 17 after 3-1 Loss at #3 Wittenberg

Springfield, Ohio - After winning the first set, DePauw held a 23-19 lead over third-ranked Wittenberg in the second, but the hosts rallied to win the set and the next two for a 3-1 win over the visiting Tigers.
DePauw dropped to 17-3 overall and 4-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with the loss which snapped the Tigers' 17-match win streak. Wittenberg improved to 15-4 overall and 5-0 in NCAC play.
The Tigers came out strong, leading by as many as 11 at 20-9 in the first set before taking a 25-19 win. The hosts, however, scored the final six points of the second set to claim a 25-23 victory which evened the match at 1-1.
In the third set, DePauw held a 14-10 advantage and the score was later tied at 18-18 but Wittenberg outscored the Tigers 7-2 down the stretch for a 25-20 win. Wittenberg led the fourth and deciding set, 24-16, before DePauw fought off match point five times to close to 24-21. Haley Mucha's kill gave Wittenberg the match win.
Hannah Nelson led DePauw with 12 kills and four blocks, while Kelly Doyle added 11 kills. Faith Rolwes led with 41 assists, while Keely McGrath totaled 21 digs and Brekiesha Weszely had two aces.
Jessica Batanian totaled 16 kills for Wittenberg, while Halllie Donathan finished with 17 assists. Christina Gilene paced the hosts with 24 digs, while Andrew Behling had five blocks.
DePauw travels to Denison for a Noon match with the Big Red on Saturday where it will also face Manchester at 2 p.m.
