Number-One DePauw Moves to 13-0 with NCAC Win over Hiram

Greencastle, Ind. - Top-ranked DePauw scored the game's first 29 points and was never threatened on the way to a 74-32 North Coast Athletic Conference victory over visiting Hiram at Neal Fieldhouse. With the victory, DePauw improved to 13-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play, while the Terriers dropped to 5-9 overall and 0-5 in the league.
Eight different Tigers scored over the opening 11 minutes and Hiram committed 11 turnovers as DePauw jumped out to a 29-0 lead. Included in that run was five different Tigers knocking down three-pointers capped by Alison Stephens' trey with 10:49 left in the half.
Hiram's Alexis Kemper ended the scoring drought when she buried a three with 10:09 remaining in the half. The Terriers outscored DePauw, 12-8, the rest of the way to cut the Tigers' halftime lead to 37-12.
The margin was 23 at 41-18 after Hiram's Brenna Host hit a jumper with 17:03 remaining, but DePauw scored the next nine wrapped up with a Savannah Trees three which pushed the lead to 50-18 with 15:02 left. Hiram got no closer than 30 the remainder of the contest.
The win was DePauw's 38th straight regular season victory and 73rd consecutive conference home win.
Kate Walker paced the Tigers with 11 points, while Alex Gasaway followed with 10. Ellie Pearson and Stephens each grabbed six rebounds as DePauw held a 31-24 edge on the boards. The Tigers grabbed 18 on the offensive glass. Pearson also paced the relentless defensive effort with five steals as the Tigers totaled 21 as a team. Also, Ross led the Tigers with four assists.
Host and Samantha Morford each scored eight for the Terriers, while Host grabbed four boards.
DePauw hosts Kenyon on Wednesday, January 9, at 6 p.m., while Hiram hosts Wooster.
