January 30, 2013

Caroline BridgesGreencastle, Ind. - DePauw freshman freestyler Caroline Bridges was honored as the Counsilman Hunsaker National Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com after a bevy of impressive swims in a dual meet against the eighth-ranked University of Chicago Maroons on Saturday, January 26.

Bridges led the Tigers in the meet, tallying three individual race victories to go along a relay triumph in the 400 free relay.

In the 50 free, Bridges recorded her sixth sub 25-second performance of the season in that event, touching the wall in 24.56 to come out on top.

The 100 free was the most dominating performance from Bridges, as she stopped the clock 1.39 seconds before the next finisher. Her 53.19 time in the event was her second fastest time of her collegiate career and her best since going 52.36 in the DePauw Invitational on November 30, 2012.

In Bridges' longest event, the 200 free, she put a cap on a great individual meet, finishing in first with a time of 1:57.61.

In the 400 free relay, Bridges led off the team of Annaleise Dehnke, Erin Horne and Emily Weber, helping finish the meet by winning the event in 3:36.69.

Bridges returns to the pool at Rose-Hulman on Saturday, February 2, to cap off the dual meet portion of the schedule. The meet is scheduled for 1 p.m.
