Monon Bell Classic Featured on Phone Book Cover

December 5, 2012

A rite of fall for the DePauw University community is celebrated on the front cover of the 2012-13 Yellowbook, phone listings that are distributed in Putnam and Montgomery counties.  The featured image shows the captains of the DePauw and Wabash College football teams meeting at the 50-yard line before the coin toss for the 2011 Monon Bell Classic, which was played at DePauw's Blackstock Stadium.

The last game every fall, the Monon Bell rivalry is one of the oldest, closest and most colorful in all of college football. The two schools first met on the gridiron in 1890. Wabash leads the all-time series 57-53-9 and has a slight edge, 38-37-6, in games played since the Monon Bell entered the rivalry in 1932.

The 120th game in the storied series will be played November 16, 2013 at Blackstock Stadium.

The Monon Bell Classic was voted Indiana's best college sports rivalry by fans of ESPN and is noted in the DVD collection, ESPNU Honor Roll: The Best of College Football, as one of the nation's best annual clashes. Since 2006, the game has been televised nationally in high definition on AXS TV. Past games have been televised on ESPN2 and ABC, and the Monon Bell was featured on CBS' Sunday Morning and has twice been spotlighted in Sports Illustrated.
