Tigers Split First Two Games in Florida

Auburndale, Fla. - DePauw opened play in Florida with a doubleheader split against Southern Maine as the Tigers won the first game, 10-2, and dropped the nightcap, 12-6. The Tigers are 3-4 with the split, while the Huskies are 6-2.
In game one, DePauw fell behind, 2-0, in the fourth as Forrest Chadwick led off with a homer before John Carey singled with two outs, stole second and scored on Nick DiBiase's double.
From that point, it was all Tigers as they scored six in the fifth and four in the seventh. Matt Dorsett led off the fifth with a walk before Pat Lyons drew a two-out walk. Zach Galyean followed with an RBI single and Jason Cohen drilled a three-run homer. Brendon Pashia followed with a single and Cory Meixner made it 6-2 with a two-run blast.
Cohen led off the seventh with a walk and Pashia followed with a single before Meixner advanced both with a bunt. Connor Einertson walked before Paul Mpistolarides delivered a two-run doubles.
DePauw totaled 11 hits led by Mpistolarides with three and Pashia with two. In all, eight Tigers collected at least one hit. Southern Maine finished with nine hits as Carey totaled three.
Michael Chiaro pitched the seven-inning complete game for the win to improve to 1-1.Andrew Richards dropped to 0-1 with the loss in relief.
In the nightcap, the Huskies scored seven in the top of the first and never trailed. Southern Maine totaled 16 hits and Sam Dexter led with three. DePauw had eight hits and were paced by Cohen's three including a pair of triples. Lyons added two hits.
Jack Peck dropped to 1-2 with the loss while Luke Hammond improved to 1-0.
DePauw takes on St. Olaf in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday.
