Women’s Lax Storms To 17-6 Victory Over Trine Thunder

Angola, Ind. - The DePauw women’s lacrosse team stay perfect in their inaugural season as an intercollegiate varsity sport after defeating the Trine Thunder, 17-6, on Sunday afternoon at the Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium in Angola, Ind.

The Tigers move to 3-0 on the season, while the Thunder drop to 0-2.

DePauw’s Elizabeth McCracken followed up her five-goal performance on Saturday against Albion with a six-goal outing on Sunday against Trine to lead the Tigers in the offensive zone.

DePauw’s Jaime Powell netted four goals, Natalie Swiler scored three, Hailey Ware added a pair while Abigail Snively and Carey Kunz each lit the lamp once. Kunz assisted on two goals in the match and McCracken and Snively assisted on one.

Trine was led by Emily Canepa’s two-goal, one-assist performance. Anne Mammel scored twice for the Thunder and Bronti Belanger and Lauren Hood scored once.

Amy Clark once again picked up the victory (3-0) in net for the Tigers, saving five shots, all in the second half. Thunder goalie, Grace Garrett kept Trine in the game, facing 43 DePauw shots, saving 14 of the 31 that were on net.

DePauw led from the outset, scoring just 2:21 into the game off of a free position attempt from Jamie Powell. The Tigers dominated throughout, jumping on the Thunder, leading 9-1 and 17-4 before the completion of the game.

DePauw outshot Trine, 43-20, during the game and capitalized on four of five free position attempts, while Trine failed to score on any of their three opportunities.

Through three games, McCracken leads DePauw in points and assists, with 24 and 10, respectively. Swiler leads the Tigers in goals, netting 15 thus far in the season.

DePauw returns to action on Tuesday, March 26 against Fontbonne in St. Louis, Mo. The match is slated to begin at 2 p.m (ET).
