DePauw Falls to Transylvania

Lexington, Ky. - Four unanswered second-quarter goals by Transylvania expanded a narrow lead and the Pioneers went on to defeat DePauw, 12-6, at Lexington Catholic Stadium.
DePauw dropped to 0-7 with the loss, while Transylvania improved to 6-4.
Transylvania scored just 2:48 into the contest on Ben Erwin's goal on an assist from Clay Douthat and the Pioneers made it 2-0 on Sam Ives' unassisted score with 3:46 left in the opening stanza. The Tigers answered just 1:14 later as Andrew Bartucci found the net with Sam Johnson assisting.
The Pioneers outscored the Tigers 4-0 in the second quarter to push the margin to 6-2. Bartucci scored his second goal with Cameron Combs assist four minutes into the third, but Transylvania scored three straight to make it 9-2.
DePauw did close the gap to 9-5 with goals by Bartucci and Greg Lambert in the final 55 seconds of the third and a score from Jack Glerum early in the fourth, but the Pioneers outscored the Tigers, 3-1 over the final 10 minutes to secure the win.
Bartucci led the Tigers with three goals, while Johnson matched his three points on a goal and two assists. Douthat paced Transylvania with five goals and added two assists with Erwin following with three goals and a team-best three assists.
Transylvania outshot DePauw, 42-21 and held a narrow, 33-29 edge in ground balls.
JR Strubbe stopped 16 of Transylvania's shots, while the Pioneers' Joshua Slone had eight saves.
DePauw returns to North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday when it travels to 12th-ranked Denison for a 2 p.m. meeting.
