Tigers Drop First Contest Of Season To Ohio Wesleyan, 16-12

Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw women’s lacrosse squad lost for the first time in program history on Tuesday night against Ohio Wesleyan, 16-12, at Boswell Field.
With the loss, DePauw drops to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) while Ohio Wesleyan picks up their second win of the season, moving to 2-7 and 1-1 in the NCAC.
DePauw’s Elizabeth McCracken once again led the Tigers in points, tallying five in the game. McCracken’s four goals were matched by teammate Jamie Powell. Natalie Swiler notched a pair of scores while sisters Carrie and Knubbe Kunz both registered goals in the game.
Attacker Annie Swanson, who scored a game-high six goals, led Ohio Wesleyan offensively.
Jordan Bernstein picked up the victory for the Battling Bishops for her play in the net, saving six shots. DePauw’s Amy Clark was saddled with her first collegiate loss after parrying nine Ohio Wesleyan attempts.
Ohio Wesleyan jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead before DePauw went on an 8-3 run to end the half and take a 9-6 lead into the intermission.
After trading goals to begin the second stanza, DePauw led Ohio Wesleyan 11-8 after a goal from Powell at the 22:54 mark of the second half.
The Battling Bishops took over the game from that point, scoring eight of the next nine goals of the game to take a commanding 16-12 lead that they would not relinquish.
The Tigers look to get back to their winning ways on Saturday, April 6, as they travel to Oberlin to take on the Yeowomen in a 1 p.m. (ET) start.
