Box scores: Game 1Game 2

Delaware, Ohio - Bolstered by a pair of strong pitching performances, DePauw opened North Coast Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader sweep at Ohio Wesleyan. The Tigers blanked the Battling Bishops, 2-0, in the opener before taking a 7-1 victory on the nightcap.

DePauw improved to 6-12 overall and 2-0 in the NCAC, while Ohio Wesleyan dropped to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

In game one, Amy Hallett put the Tigers on the board in the top of the first with a solo homer to left center. That would be the game's only scoring until the sixth when Sammi Bell led off the DePauw sixth with a single, move to second on Hallett's sacrifice bunt and scored on Linsey Button's single.

The hosts manged just two hits against DePauw's Emily Bichler and their biggest threat came in the second when they loaded the bases before Bichler struck out Lauren Elkins to end the inning.

Kate Hendrickson paced the Tigers with two of their six hits. Bichler improved to 2-4 after striking out eight and walking just two in the win. Dani Haley dropped to 3-5 with the loss.

In the nightcap, DePauw struck first again in the opening frame as Hallett walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Haleigh Chasteen followed with a run-scoring single.

The Bishops tied the game in the third as Morgan Hall singled with one out, moved to second on Chelsea Denman's sacrifice bunt and scored on Sarah Flint's triple.

After scoring one unearned run each in the fifth and sixth innings, the Tigers broke the game open in the seventh with four runs including a three-run homer by Catherine Conte.

DePauw totaled eight hits with Chasteen leading with two. Booke Nethers had four of the Bishops' four hits.

Kahla Nolan improved to 1-3 with the win and struck out 10, while Amanda Barker dropped to 6-2 with the loss.

DePauw returns to action on Saturday, April 6, when it hosts Oberlin in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
