Tigers Clipped By Cardinals, 17-13

Naperville, Ill. – The DePauw women’s lacrosse squad went back and forth with the North Central (Ill.) Cardinals in their second-to-last non-conference match of the year before succumbing, 17-13, on Sunday, April 14, in Naperville, Ill.
With the loss DePauw falls one game below .500 at 4-5 overall, while the Cardinals moved to 8-3 on the season with the victory.
After a DePauw strike from Maryclaire Heldring, the Tigers took a 10-9 lead with just under 26 minutes remaining in the second half. This would be the last lead DePauw held as North Central scored the next five goals of the game and closed the game on an 8-3 run.
Elizabeth McCracken once again led the DePauw attack, notching seven points in the match (5 goals, 2 assists). Natalie Swiler, Jamie Powell and Knubbe Kunz scored a pair of goals and Abigail Snively and Heldring added tallies for the Tigers. Swiler joined McCracken by registering an assist in the contest.
North Central’s Gina Fisher filled the stat sheet once again, scoring five goals, dropping one assist, taking eight shots, scooping up two groundballs, controlling four draws and causing two turnovers.
The Cardinals Sarah Hon picked up another victory, saving nine shots in the game. DePauw’s Amy Clark received the loss after an unbelievable performance that saw her stop 12 shots.
DePauw was outshot by the Cardinals, 34-28, and only received two free position opportunities. North Central capitalized on 6 of 12 free position opportunities while the Tigers were unable to score on either of their chances.
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, April 16, for a North Coast Athletic Conference showdown vs. Wittenberg on Boswell Field at 5 p.m. (ET).
