Wittenberg Advances in NCAC Tournament with Win over Kenyon

Greencastle, Ind. - Wittenberg advanced in the North Coast Athletic Conference Softball Tournament winner's bracket with a 4-1 victory over Kenyon. The Tigers improved to 21-11 and face Allegheny at 2:20. Kenyon dropped to 22-14 and takes on DePauw at approximately 4 p.m.
Wittenberg took a 1-0 lead in the first as Laura Rose walked with two outs and stole second. A high throw to second on the steal attempt allowed Rose to go to third and a high throw from the outfield to third permitted her to score.
The Tigers made it 4-0 in the second as Rachel Ross led off with a homer to center before Kaela Hughes singled and came home on Ashlee Wright's round-tripper to left.
Kenyon's lone run came in the seventh when Meredith Williams led off with a single and moved to second on Toni Miller's ground out. Williams advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Liz Paterra's sacrifice fly.
Three different Ladies had one hit each, while Ross helped her own cause in the circle with three of Wittenberg's eight hits and Aubrey Mendez added two.
Ross improved to 16-4 with five strikeouts in tossing the three-hitter. Maddy Stark dropped to 17-6 with the loss.
