Destin, Fla. - Paced by Paige Gooch's (Jr., Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) opening-round, one-over-par 73, the fourth-ranked DePauw women are tied for fifth after the first of four rounds of the NCAA Division III Championships at the Baytowne Golf Course at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.
The Tigers are tied with Southwestern as each shot 321 today. Mary Hardin-Baylor leads with a 306 followed by Texas-Tyler (309), Methodist (318) and George Fox (319).
Gooch (pictured) was 2-under through her first 12 holes with four birdies. Kelsey Smith (Jr., Indianapolis, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) shot an 82 to tie for 34th, while Jacqueline Carroll (Fr., Upper Arlington, Ohio) and Camila Romero (Sr., Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar) each shot 83 and Abby Dickey (Jr., Elk Grove Village, Ill./St. Viator) finished the opening round with an 84.
Laura Lindsey of Texas-Tyler leads the 111-player field with a 72, while Gooch is tied with Kelsey Morrison of George Fox.
