Dennis Marek '64 to Present Memorial Day Address

May 26, 2013

J. Dennis Marek, a 1964 graduate of DePauw University, will be the keynote speaker at the Memorial Day commemoration in St. Anne, Illinois, tomorrow. The event will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Anne Grade School. Marek is senior partner in the law firm of Ackman, Marek, Meyer, Tebo and Coghlan.

An item in the St. Anne Record notes that Marek "attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, with his junior year abroad at the classic Durham University in northem England. Dennis attended law school in Chicago at Northwestern University, graduating with honors in 1967. He was admitted to practice law in Illinois that year and became employed by the CIA until his entry into the United State Air Force later that year. After Officer's Training School in Lackland AFB, he was assigned to Westover AFB in Chicopee, Massachusetts, not with the famed 8th Air Force, but at a small secret installation on the base where he worked with very early satellite photography along with some U-2 film. He then transferred to CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, where he worked in Special Ops including the section charged with identifying all POWs in captivity. This work was done in many ways including LGL8805deciphering code in letters written home by captured POWs, returning POWs who had been released or had escaped, and even debriefing captured North Vietnamese soldiers. Upon his discharge, he returned home to Kankakee where he commenced his now 43-year law career."

A political science major and Rector Scholar at DePauw, Denny Marek has taught at American International College, the Illinois Defense Trial Academy and has been an adjunct professor for Kankakee Community College where he was also a trustee for 17 years.
