Visiting Tigers Down DePauw 2-1

Greencastle, Ind.- Three days after the Tigers’ dramatic win over Allegheny to claim the top spot in the North Coast Athletic Conference they returned to Boswell Field to take on Wittenberg University. This time however, it was the visiting Tigers who had a flare for the dramatics taking down DePauw by a score of 2-1.
With the loss DePauw dropped to 10-7 overall and 5-2 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg improved to 9-6-3 overall and 5-1-1 in the NCAC.
The visitors dominated the first half taking six shots and allowing zero. Wittenberg senior Kayla Murphy scored on an assist from Chelsey Marcum with 43:59 on the clock and entered halftime leading 1-0.
DePauw entered the second half with a heightened energy and tied the score when sophomore Stephanie Martin knocked in a pass from Chloe Jacob in the 52nd minute.
The contest was tied until the 66th minute when Wittenberg was awarded a penalty kick following a DePauw foul inside the box. The visiting Tigers had sophomore Zoe Curry step up and convert the PK putting Wittenberg up 2-1. Curry’s goal would prove to be the game-winner.
Wittenberg outshot DePauw 13-4 and held a 9-2 edge on corner kicks.
DePauw travels to Denison on Saturday, November 2, to finish up regular season play. This NCAC match is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start.Back
