Gators End Tigers' Repeat NCAC Title Hopes
November 6, 2013
Meadville, Pa.- The Tigers looked to pull their second upset in as many trips when they traveled to Allegheny Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately the Gators’ offensive attack was too much for DePauw as they fell 2-0.
DePauw dropped to 10-9 to finish their season, while Allegheny improved to 10-5-4 and will play in the North Coast Athletic Conference championship on Saturday.
Allegheny freshman Jessie Thiessen netted both goals for the Gators who outshot DePauw 22-6 in the contest. Thiessen’s first goal came in the 34th minute when she knocked in a pass from Greta Hilbrands. With three minutes remaining in the first half Thiessen scored an unassisted goal providing the Gators with some breathing room.
The Tigers mounted a more substantial attack in the second half attempting five shots, but were unable to push one past the Gators’ goaltender. Allegheny held a 5-3 edge on corner kicks and had 11 shots on goal compared to just three by the Tigers.
DePauw goaltender Emma Cooper grabbed eight saves in a losing effort.
The Tigers wrapped up their 2013 campaign finishing fourth in the NCAC regular season standings with a 5-3 record. After a rough start to the season DePauw managed to win six straight victories and battle for the top spot in the conference. The Tigers were led by freshman Elizabeth Seewer who tallied six goals and three assists and sophomore Megann Lear who totaled three goals and eight assists.Back
