DePauw Falls to Catholic 1-0 in OT

Newport News, Va.- The DePauw field hockey team took on Catholic University in their opening round match of the NCAA Division III Championship Saturday afternoon at Christopher Newport University.
After 70 minutes the Tigers and the Cardinals were locked in a scoreless tie. Catholic broke the tie just one minute into overtime when Maura Campbell scored the game-winner on an assist from Taylor Elliott.
With the loss DePauw closes out their 2013 season with an overall record of 17-5, while the Cardinals improved to 15-5 and will play Christopher Newport in Sunday’s third round matchup.
Catholic outshot the Tigers 10-6 and the two teams tied 5-5 in penalty corners. DePauw goalkeeper Maggie Steele made two saves in a losing effort.
The Tigers close out their 2013 season after finishing 13-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference including a first place finish in both the regular season and the NCAC tournament. DePauw advanced to the NCAA tournament for the second straight year after earning the NCAC automatic bid.Back
