January 6, 2014
Greencastle, Ind. - Coming off a solid four-game stretch, DePauw junior center Tommy Fernitz (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) has been selected North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
In leading DePauw to a 4-0 record over the last week, Fernitz averaged 18.3 points and 15.3 rebounds per contest and recorded the first four double-doubles of his collegiate career. All of that came in a span of just seven days.
Included in that was a career-high 22 points in the Tigers' 81-80 double overtime win over Kalamazoo in the Tampa Bay Shootout title game. He established career highs of 15 rebounds in both Tampa Bay Shootout wins and was named the tournament most valuable player.
Fernitz then established a new rebounding career best when he grabbed 16 boards in the Tigers' 61-49 win at Allegheny.
During the four games, Fernitz shot 59.6 percent from the field and blocked seven shots.
DePauw is 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the NCAC and returns to the court on Saturday, January 11, at Kenyon College. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. and can be heard on WGRE.Back
