Tigers Topple Terriers

Greencastle, Ind.- After a tough loss to Allegheny Friday night the DePauw men’s basketball team was back in action Saturday afternoon against the visiting Hiram Terriers. The Tigers dominated from start to finish, never trailing on their way to a 84-71 victory.
With the win DePauw improved to 15-6 overall and 10-4 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while Hiram dropped to 5-16 on the year and 3-11 in conference play.
The Tigers were got off to a good start opening up a 15-9 lead with 15:05. Adam Botts hit his second straight three-pointer setting DePauw on a 13-0 run over the next five minutes. The Tigers went into halftime with a 44-31 lead.
DePauw benefited from 19 bench points in the half and assisted on 12 of their 17 field goals.
The second half proved to be all Tigers once again. Hiram did cut the lead to single digits late in the contest, but DePauw was able to withstand the pressure and seal the victory.
Hiram’s Aaron Stefanov had a very quiet, game-high 27 points. The last time the Tigers clashed with the Terriers, Stefanov dropped 40 points in an overtime loss. Josh Edmondson and Chris Zurowski added 11 points and 10 points respectively. Zurowski also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Pat Haggin led the Tigers with 17 points, while Tommy Fernitz added 16 points. Botts and Luke Lattner tallied 14 points and 13 points respectively in the victory.
DePauw shot 50.0 percent from the field including a 42.9 percent mark from three-point land. Both teams grabbed 32 rebounds in the contest.
The Tigers travel to Wittenberg Wednesday, February 12, for an 8 p.m. conference showdown.Back
