Look for Drew Powell '98 in New Fox Series Gotham

September 16, 2014

Drew Powell, a 1998 graduate of DePauw University, is among the cast members of the new Fox television show, Gotham, which premieres September 22. He portrays Butch Gilzean, a recurring character described as "the deceptively clever and ambitious second-in-command to sadistic gangster boss Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett-Smith)."

Gotham is "billed as 'an origin story' that allows viewers to see Batman as a child traumatized by the murder of his parents, and the emergence of beloved/reviled peripheral characters in the Batman universe such as Catwoman, the Penguin, the Riddler, the Joker, Poison Ivy and Two-Face," writes Tim Goodman in the Hollywood Reporter. The show succeeds "in creating a nascent world where familiar figures of yore are introduced. The pilot makes that world compelling. The writing and the actors make that world unique, a series unto itself, not a Batman series that doesn’t have Batman in it."

An English (literature) major and Media Fellow at DePauw, Powell's resume includes a Drew Powell Straw Dogs 1role in the big screen remake of Straw Dogs. He's also made appearances in The Mentalist, NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Grey's Anatomy, Modern Family, Castle, Necessary Roughness, Bones, Leverage, Malcolm in the Middle, True Blood, CSI, Ponderosa, The Office, 1408, House, Psych, Memphis Beat and ER. He also performed in The Pee Wee Herman Show on Broadway.

Drew Powell will also be seen in Reparation, which is directed by Kyle Ham '94 and was filmed in Putnam County over the summer.  The movie is now in post-production.
