Prof. Mark Toole '93 Receives Distinguished Teaching-Service Award

May 15, 2015

Mark A. Toole, assistant professor of religion at High Point University and 1993 graduate of DePauw University, received the Meredith Clark Slane Distinguished Teaching-Service Award during the school's 2015 commencement ceremony. The award has been given annually since 1973 to recognize excellence in teaching.

“It is a great honor to be recognized by my colleagues and students with this award,” says Dr. Toole. “As a college student, I was fortunate to work with excellent professors who invested in me, brought learning to life, and transformed the way I looked at the world. They set a high bar, and I strive to live up to their example every day.”

A sociology major at DePauw, Toole earned the M.Div. from Chicago Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. from the University of Denver's Iliff School of Theology. Since 2009, he has been on the faculty at High Point, where he directs the university's honors program. Toole previously taught at the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Denver.
