Indiana Pacers to Honor Hoosiers, Which Starred Steve Hollar '89
July 21, 2015
"On Tuesday, the Indiana Pacers announced they will wear special Hoosiers-themed jerseys to honor the iconic film's 30-year anniversary," reports the Indianapolis Star. Kyle Neddenriep notes that the jerseys "will be worn at games to be determined," and the article includes several photos, including the 1986 shot seen at right of Steve Hollar, then a DePauw University student who played "Rade" in the film, signing an autograph for Lisa Stacy. It was taken outside of Ashley Square Cinema in Greencastle.
The film, considered a sports classic, was shot in Indiana. Written by Angelo Pizzo and directed by David Anspaugh, its cast featured Gene Hackman, Barbara Hershey and Dennis Hopper.
Steve Hollar graduated from DePauw in 1989 and played for the Tiger basketball team. He earned $17,000 for his role in the movie and went on to become a dentist in Warsaw, Indiana, where he still practices today.
In 2011 during the film's 25th anniversary year, Hollar told the Banner-Graphic, "But you want to talk about a DePauw education, it really has served me well, especially when you consider that the role of college is to make you think, reason and communicate."
Steve Hollar, who majored in communication, was featured on Indianapolis CBS affiliate WISH in 1986 and Chicago's WLS-TV a year later.Back
