David Barrett '94 Co-Authors Harnessing the Dynamics of Public Education: Preparing for a Return to Greatness

David C. Barrett, a 1994 graduate of DePauw University, is the co-author of Harnessing the Dynamics of Public Education: Preparing for a Return to Greatness. The Muncie Star Press notes that Barrett -- who is senior field trainer and analyst for the Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk (MCPER) at the University of Texas at Austin -- will be at the Ball State University Bookstore on April 23 for an 11 a.m. discussion and book signing.

"After graduating from DePauw University in 1994, Barrett moved to Texas and has worked with at-risk youth and families in a variety of settings, including 14 years in public education," reports the newspaper. "In the book, Barrett and co-author Timothy Jones '(take on) on the War on Education in an effort to rethink, redesign and develop a new state-of-the-art system of learning that will regain international competiveness and be the 'best choice' for parents in a growing system of choice,' according to the publisher's website."

Barrett, who majored in psychology and was a political science minor at DePauw, earned an M.A. in professional counseling from Texas State University-San Marcos and an Ed.D. from Texas A&M University-Commerce. He also serves as the assistant director of the Middle School Matters Institute.
