Prindle Institute Forum to Examine 'The State of Journalism'

press hat 2.jpgOctober 22, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — What do citizens expect and deserve from journalists? How well do traditional "Fourth Estate" journalists and emerging "Fifth Estate" journalists and information providers serve the needs of our communities? Does the public have a responsibility to financially support journalism in a democracy? Those questions and others will be explored in a Tuesday, October 27 forum at DePauw University -- "The State of Journalism: The View from Hoosier Land" -- which will examine the strengths and struggles of journalism in Indiana.

The program is free and open to the public and begins at 7 p.m. at the Prindle Institute for Ethics, located within the Bob Steele 2009-a.jpgDePauw Nature Park.

The session will feature journalism leaders from around Indiana and the audience will be encouraged to join in the discussion. The forum is in collaboration between DePauw's Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics and the Poynter Institute for Media Studies, an internationally-recognized leader in the training of journalists and media leaders.

Bob Steele (pictured), Eugene S. Pulliam Distinguished Visiting Professor of Journalism at DePauw and 1969 graduate of the University, will host the forum and lead the discussions.
