December 8, 2004

mitch roob.jpgDecember 8, 2004, Greencastle, Ind. - "Mitch Roob says he likes big problems. He now will take on one of the state's biggest. Roob was picked Tuesday by Gov.-elect Mitch Daniels to head Indiana's largest state agency, the Family and Social Services Administration," notes today's Indianapolis Star in a story noting the 1983 DePauw University graduate's appointment. Roob comes to his new post from ACS Inc., where he served as a vice president. He was previously president of the Marion County Health and Hospital Corporation and was an aide to former Indianapolis Mayor Stephen Goldsmith.

"Mitch is deeply committed to the interests of the least fortunate among us and equally committed to getting the most service from every tax dollar," says Daniels. "He is the best qualified person for the one of the toughest jobs in the state."

"The Family and Social Services Administration touches Hoosiers lives in many ways," states Roob. "We face a great challenge regaining Hoosiers' trust and meeting Hoosiers' needs. Mitch (Daniels) has set the bar high for service and responsibility and I look forward to attaining those goals."

The Star's Mary Beth Schneider and Tim Evans note that Roob "will head an agency with an annual budget of $6.3 billion, 9,400 employees and offices in all 92 Indiana counties. It administers 157 programs through four divisions -- family and children; mental health and addiction; disability, aging and rehabilitation services; and the Office of Medicaid Policy and Planning."

The story, which contains bipartisan praise of Mitch Roob, can be accessed by clicking here. Read more at Mitch Daniels' transition Web site here.
