Wabash Forfeits 1891 Gridiron Match to DePauw

November 21, 1891

1890 football-melon-style-1.jpgNovember 21, 1891, Greencastle, Ind. - A telegram from Manager Evans of the Wabash College football team, received by DePauw Manager Smith yesterday, declares that the men from Crawfordsville are unable to play today's scheduled game at DePauw and are thus forfeiting the contest. It will go down in the record books as a 1-0 victory.

There had been some controversy in recent days amid claims by DePauw that one of the Wabash players is not enrolled as a student at the college.

DePauw has now logged three wins against one loss for this season. The triumphs include a 62-4 drubbing of Indiana University's football squad earlier in the fall. (at right: 1891 DePauw football team)
