October 31, 2009, Birmingham, Ala. — DePauw University's football team jumped out to a 21-7 halftime lead and withstood a second half challenge from host Birmingham-Southern, 35-21. The win, the Tigers' fifth straight, lifts DePauw to 6-1 on the season. Birmingham-Southern falls to 4-4.
It was the Tigers' final road game of the regular season. The team is tied for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference lead.
Senior quarterback Spud Dick completed 21-of-34 passes for 325 yards and three touchdowns. He was also intercepted twice. Dick has now thrown for 300 or more yards in a school record 13 games.
Derrick Karaszia led the ground game with 35 yards on 10 carries, including a touchdown. Jon Ellis collected 18 yards on 13 carries with one TD.
Next up for the Tigers is their final SCAC game of the season versus Austin next Saturday at Blackstock Stadium.
