He has recorded
works of Chopin, Beethoven, Debussy and Rachmaninoff on the RCA Japan,
Toshiba/EMI and TownHall labels. The first of a series of Auer’s Chopin
recordings was released by Camerata, and a recording of Shubert with
violinist Arturo Delmoni and cellist Nathaniel Rosen was released in 1994 on
the Clarity label. Born in New York
of Hungarian descent, Auer was a pupil of Aube Tzerko and Rosina Lhevinne at
The Juilliard School and spent two years in Paris on a Fulbright Study
Grant. While in Europe, he was a prize winner in the Beethoven, Chopin,
Queen Elizabeth and Tchaikovsky competitions. He is a professor of piano at
the Indiana University School of Music. Auer will be
joined by pianist Patricia Collins Jones, dean of the DePauw School of
Music, for a performance of the Brahms Waltzes, op. 39 in the March 17
concert. Both Auer and Jones studied with Rosina Lhevinne at The Juilliard
