Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course

Course taught by Ethan Bliss, Ph.D., Interim Director of the Wellness Center. Co-sponsored by the Academic Resource Center and the Wellness Center.

Mindfulness is a way of increasing awareness of your self and surroundings. With mindfulness skills you can take charge of your life, make more conscious decisions and become healthier. Clinical studies demonstrate that by learning to pay attention to the present moment people experience lower stress levels and multiple health benefits.

Our Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course will consist of an introductory class and five additional classes. During this six week period, participants in the course will be encouraged to develop a daily mindfulness practice using techniques learned in the classes. Three main techniques will be explored: body scan, sitting meditation, and movement based practice (Tai chi and yoga).

Classes started Friday, October 9 and are scheduled from
4 - 5 p.m. in the Reese Hall Lobby. Continuing classes will meet on Fridays: same time and place. Open to staff, students, and faculty.
