DePauw Students: You Can Shape Greencastle! Complete The Greencastle YES Survey
|
|
The Greencastle Youth Engagement Summit (YES) is an exciting new initiative that will shape the way our community develops in the very near future. This is the best opportunity that you have to affect change in the City of Greencastle.
Coinciding with the spirit of DePauw's Intellectual Life and Campus Planning discussions, the City of Greencastle is seeking direct input from students as City planning efforts continue. Please take ten minutes to voice your concerns as both a consumer and a citizen through the following survey. Combining the data you provide with discussions that will occur at a summit meeting later this fall, Greencastle YES will identify which aspects of our community could be better aligned with the expectations and desires of our youth constituencies, and will seek to resolve those issues.
Every answer that you provide in this survey will be taken into consideration as our community continues to develop.
Survey Link
Thank you for your participation in the Greencastle YES survey. Please contact Alec Synnestvedt (Student Intern, City Hall) with any questions.

| Honor Scholar Program Lateral Entry Applications |
|
Hello FIRST-YEAR DePauw students,
The Honor Scholar Program is seeking applications for Lateral Entry. Our aim is to find students who want to join a community that emphasizes:
Intellectual Curiosity and Courage
o Honor Scholars are eager “to boldly go” where others have not gone, and where some may fear to go. The ideal Honor Scholar student has an almost uncontrollable curiosity about pretty much everything. They also have the intellectual courage to investigate topics that are unfamiliar, difficult, and sometimes uncomfortable.
Intellectual Leadership
o Honor Scholar students are ready, prepared, and eager for leadership challenges. These challenges include intellectual exploration, social problems, environmental concerns, scientific investigation, and campus life. This habit of leadership extends beyond graduation, and characterizes our Honor Scholar alumni throughout life.
Connections and critical thinking
o Honor Scholar is about seeing the connections between all areas of intellectual life. Our students develop expertise in their majors, but are never satisfied to look at the world through one kind of intellectual lens. Honor Scholars excel in the ability to think critically about individual topics and integratively across topics.
If this matches what you want from college, and you would enjoy lively intellectual debate and discussion-based courses, then we hope you will consider joining us.
Given the size of our entering class, there are only a small number of slots open for lateral entry (approx. 6-8 openings). Students interested in submitting an application will be asked to prepare an essay and submit a letter of recommendation from one of their current faculty members. Accepted students will be required to register and enroll in an Honor Scholar First Year Seminar for the 2010 spring semester.
If you are interested in this opportunity, students should contact Amy Welch at awelch@depauw.edu by Friday, October 16 to request an application. Completed applications will be due Friday, October 30.
