Monon Bell Ticket Information


Monday, October 26 – Tuesday, October 27

Students, faculty and staff can pick up tickets for the 2009 Monon Bell Game in the Office of Student Life in UB 210 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.  Students are entitled to one ticket each.  Faculty and staff can get up to two tickets each.  Students, faculty and staff must personally show their valid DePauw I.D. to receive their tickets.  Complementary tickets must be picked up during this time period.  Once tickets go on sale, we anticipate that tickets may sell out by the end of the first day.

Wednesday, October 28

Tickets can be purchased with a credit card on the DePauw web site for $15 each plus $1 per order shipping and handling fee.   A maximum purchase of eight tickets is allowed per order.   Look for information on the DePauw home page or the Monon Bell web page.  For persons without internet access, please call the DePauw University Office of Student Life at 765.658.4199 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to place an order.  There is a limited supply of tickets.   In the event  tickets are oversold, credit cards will be refunded based upon time of order once tickets have been sold out.

Flu Shots For Students

The Wellness Center has received a small supply of seasonal flu vaccine which is now available for students who have chronic medical conditions. Students who have asthma, diabetes and other conditions may come to the Wellness Center to get vaccinated from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. today and Friday and 9 a.m. - noon and 1 - 5 p.m. next Tuesday and Thursday. Flu shots are free of charge, no appointment is necessary. You may call 765.658.4555 with any questions.

Swim Fitness Programs To Start After Fall Break


The DePauw Fitness/Wellness Program is pleased to announce new swim fitness programs that begin October 26 and will continue until December 9.

Water Aerobics

Monday and Wednesday, 7 – 8 p.m.

A deep water fitness workout that mimics running, cycling, weightlifting and kickboxing without impact or wear and tear on joints.  Participants will need water flotation belts.  A limited number of belts are available to try for the first few classes, but regular participants can order a belt through the instructor.

Lap Swimming

Tuesday, 7 – 8 p.m.

A deckside coach will offer workouts for different fitness levels.

These programs are free for all DePauw students, faculty, staff, retirees and family members.  Please contact Jeanne Menzel if you have any questions.

Science Research Abstracts Due By October 16


ANY science student who conducted research during Academic Year '08-'09 or summer,'09 and would like to participate in the Annual Science Research Poster Session on Wednesday, November 4 should submit a brief abstract, your name, your sponsor, the location of your research and grant information to scifellows@depauw.edu before Fall Break. It will be published in the abstract booklet and a space will be provided for you at the poster session to display your poster.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

Feeling Stressed? Ready to learn life skills that can change your future? Join our Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course! Course taught by Ethan Bliss, Ph.D., Interim Director of the Wellness Center. Co-sponsored by the Academic Resource Center and the Wellness Center. Mindfulness is a way of increasing awareness of your self and surroundings. With mindfulness skills you can take charge of your life, make more conscious decisions and become healthier. Clinical studies demonstrate that by learning to pay attention to the present moment people experience lower stress levels and multiple health benefits. Our Mindfulness Based Reduction course will consist of an introductory class and five additional classes. During this six week period, participants in the course will be encouraged to develop a daily mindfulness practice using techniques learned in the classes. Three main techniques will be explored: body scan, sitting meditation, and movement based practice (Tai chi and yoga).

Classes started Friday, October 9, continuing classes will meet on Fridays, same time and place. Open to staff, students and faculty.
