Building Tomorrow

Building Tomorrow is a national social-profit organization and we have just opened a chapter here at DePauw. Our mission is to raise $45,000 by the end of the 2011 school year to build a school for 325 children in Uganda (forty-one million children in sub-saharan Africa will never have the opportunity to attend primary school) and, through this fundraising, we hope to create awareness about the importance of access to education.

We are holding an important awareness day on Wednesday, September 16. Forty-one members from our organization will be wearing bold Building Tomorrow t-shirts on this day, each to represent one million children who will not receive an education, and will present on our organization in each of their classes that day.

Please support Building Tomorrow!

Invisible Children Film Screening

Wednesday, September 16
9 - 11 p.m.
Pulliam Center, Watson Forum

In the spring of 2003, three young filmmakers traveled to Africa in search of a story. What started out as a filmmaking adventure transformed into much more when these boys from Southern California discovered a tragedy that disgusted and inspired them, a tragedy where children are both the weapons and the victims.

After returning to the States, they created the documentary "Invisible Children: Rough Cut," a film that exposes the tragic realities of northern Uganda's night commuters and child soldiers.

Come see for yourself their powerful documentary (for free!) and discuss with members of Invisible Children ways that you can help put an end to the war in Northern Uganda.

Sponsored by The Compton Center for Peace and Justice.

Stand-Off For Education

September 25 & 26
8 p.m.
Corner of Hanna and Locust St.

People from all over the campus will be commencing in a 24 hour stand-off on the corner of Hanna and Locust in order to raise money for Building Tomorrow an organization that supports Education in African countries.

Building Tomorrow is a national non-profit organization that works with college campuses to raise $45,000 to build a primary school for 300 children in Uganda, who would otherwise not have access to an education, despite the Universal Primary Education bill that Uganda has passed. After we raise the $45,000, the rest of the contributions come from local labor and resources, so there is a strong Ugandan community investment in the project. After Building Tomorrow builds the school, the Ugandan government will guarantee teachers and upkeep for the school, they just simply cannot afford to build enough schools to meet the needs of the population.
