Rosie The Riveter Film And Discussion, First Event In The Women, War And Documentary Film Series
|
Monday, September 14
7 - 8:30 p.m.
Pulliam Center, Watson Forum
Connie Fields' 1981 documentary "The Life and Times of Rosie the Riveter" deals with WW II and a group of women who went to work in the war-production industry, thereby temporarily moving from low-paying menial jobs to high-paid, unionized defense work. (All five women singled out by the film lost their jobs at the end of the war). The film contrasts their compelling narratives with an "official" counter-narrative drawn from archival footage-newsreels, recruitment films, government propaganda, popular songs, commercials etc. There will be a panel discussion and Q & A with Professors Altman, Dittmer and Steinson following the screening.
