Denise Hayes, Ph.D., dhayes@depauw.edu, Denise Hayes, Associate Dean of Students and Director of Counseling and Health Services, received her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Indiana University in 1994 and has worked at DePauw University since 1999. Originally from Indianapolis, IN, she has published and presented in the areas of self-esteem, multicultural counseling, spirituality, applied ethics, stress management and leadership.
Her therapeutic approach to working with students involves helping students identify challenges and obstacles which inhibit their ability to fulfill their potential. Using an eclectic approach including Cognitive-Behavioral, Psychodynamic and Interpersonal theories and techniques, she encourages students to develop positive internal messages, establish healthy social supports and examine their self-care regimes. She enjoys working with students who are dealing with a variety of concerns including but not limited to: depression, anxiety, self-esteem, relational difficulties and issues related to identity.
She is a licensed psychologist, and holds membership and leadership roles in the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors (AUCCCD). She manages her stress through exercise, taking care of her plants, spending time with family and friends and enjoying a good laugh.
Ethan Bliss, M.A., LMHC, ethanbliss@depauw.edu, Assistant Director of Counseling Services. Ethan is finishing his PhD dissertation in Couseling Psychology from the University of Miami (Florida), in 2000 he received a Masters in Community Counseling from St. Mary's University (Texas), and in 1991 received an undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Florida. Ethan is a dedicated therapist committed to helping students meet their goals of health and wellbeing. His counseling style emphasizes exploring a person’s troubles in a collaborative manner. He believes that as the therapy process develops, patterns of behavior are first examined, then understood, and finally changed. Ethan’s professional interests include health psychology, social justice and counseling processes. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and woodworking.
Quamina Carter, M.S., quaminacarter@depauw.edu, Counselor, Addictions Specialist: Quamina has an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Tuskegee University and a Master’s Degree in Community Counseling from Martin University. Quamina has studied alternative treatments for addiction in Vancouver, BC and China. Quamina’s personal interests include traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Cheryl Zoll, czoll@depauw.edu, Senior Receptionist. Cheryl received her medical terminology certification from Bluffton Regional Hospital in 1988 where she worked as medical transcriptionist. After relocating to Greencastle in 1989 she worked for a local physician's office as receptionist/transcriptionist for several years. She began working for DePauw University in 1997 in the Instructional Media Services Dept, followed by the Information Services Help Desk, and finally as receptionist for the Wellness Center. Cheryl also currently works part-time for St. Vincent Physician Network where she does medical coding and posting of charges since 2004. In her spare time, Cheryl enjoys being involved with her three children, playing tennis, traveling and motorcycle riding.
