Panhellenic Council
For more than 160 years, Greek life has had and continues to have a significant impact on the DePauw community. Our Greek community is both distinctive and historical, especially as both Alpha Chi Omega and Kappa Alpha Theta sororities were founded here. Today, as about 69 percent of students are affiliated with a Greek letter organization, Greeks are leaders in every distinctive honors program, sports team, organization and club on campus.

Definition

The DePauw Panhellenic Council is the unifying, governing and coordinating organization of the sorority community. The Council consists of one representative from each of the nine sorority chapters at DePauw who meet twice per month to discuss issues pertaining to Greek Life at DePauw. The Panhellenic Executive Board consists of the officers of the Council, which are elected by all chapters in an all-sorority election. Panhellenic provides a communication link between sororities, campus organizations and community leaders. Our programming seeks to encourage personal and chapter enrichment in many different areas such as philanthropy, scholarship, women's issues and overall Greek unity. In addition to all of these opportunities, Panhellenic organizes the Recruitment process, which is the membership selection process of the Greek community. As you experience the Recruitment process, have fun, be confident and do what is best for you. The Panhellenic Office is located in the Union Building, Room 130. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have about Greek Life.

Dear Potential New Members,
Welcome to DePauw Panhellenic 2010 Recruitment! DePauw University has a wonderful history of fraternity and sorority life, which we encourage you to explore. Membership in a sorority provides opportunities for leadership, academic excellence, campus involvement, athletics and service to the community. It also fosters close friendships and offers social opportunities, with the added bonus of great living arrangements.
Though Formal Recruitment does not begin until second semester, there are several ways to get to know the Greek community right now. An important resource for obtaining information on Greek Life are Recruitment Guides, or Rho Gammas - women who have chosen to disaffiliate from their chapter in order to serve as neutral counselors to women who are considering taking part in Recruitment. Rho Gammas are assigned to each floor of the Residence Halls. Throughout the semester, there are a number of events held around campus events held around campus that provide an opportunity to interact with women who are already members of a chapter. These events include Greek Week, which will take place from September 21-26, as well as Recruitment 101 on November 10th, and MINGLES (Meaningful INteractions in Navigating the Greek Life Experience), which will occur throughout the first six weeks of the Fall semester. Rho Gammas will hold regular meetings in order to let you know about these events, and also to help facilitate a knowledge and understanding of the Recruitment process.
For more specific information regarding the finer points of Recruitment, I would encourage you to contact your Rho Gamma. Please also feel free to contact myself or Greek Life Coordinator, Hermen Diaz (hermendiaz@depauw.edu), or stop by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, Union Building 130, with any questions you may have. Again, we encourage you to explore the options available on campus and hope that you choose to take part in DePauw Panhellenic Recruitment 2010!
