The purpose of the following document is to give you guidelines by which you can assess your injury or illness and begin treatment. When in doubt or whenever you have a question, please come in to the Health Center to be seen, or at least call us. Even with the best of care, you may be ill at some point in your college years. You can successfully treat yourself. Use this Health Handbook as a guide for self-help treatment and also as a reference tool to know when to seek professional medical help.

  • Regular exercise
  • Proper amount of rest
  • Stress management
  • Adopt a positive attitude
  • Drop bad habits
  • Don't smoke
  • Limit alcohol use
  • Avoid illegal drug use

OVER-THE-COUNTER MEDICATIONS TO KEEP ON HAND:

  • Pain relievers: Tylenol or Advil (Ibuprofen)
  • Cleansing solution: Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Antibiotic ointment: Neosporin
  • Decongestant: Sudafed (caution: high blood pressure)
  • Antihistamine: Actifed, Dimetapp, Benadryl
  • Cough suppressant: Robitussin DM
  • Sucrets, Chloraseptic
  • Band-Aids
  • Oral thermometer
