HOT TUB FOLLICULITIS

DEFINITION: - A skin rash consisting of tiny pus-filled pimples which may turn into dark red painful nodules, often along bathing suit lines.  It is caused by a bacterium (Pseudomonas) found in contaminated hot tubs and saunas.

SELF TREATMENT

  1. This infection often disappears without any treatment, usually in 7-10 days.
  2. Can take over the counter anti-itch medications to relieve itching.
  3. Use a white vinegar wet compress on the rash for 20 minutes 2-4 times per day.
  4. Showering offers no protection against the rash.

  1. Symptoms worsen and the infection appears to spread
  2. The rash is not responding to your self-care
